One Day trip to Essaouira from Marrakech

About 3 hours’ drive from Marrakech you will visit beautiful coastal town of Essaouira also known as “Mogador”. One of the most strikingly medieval-looking gems, this place has an authentic medina it is proud to call a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We stop at a breathtaking vantage point, high above the “White City”, with the immense Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop, before we descend into Essaouira—a grand beginning to the day. Our first stop is the picturesque harbor, where colorful fishing boats deliver their fresh catch in the early morning. This is where the frenetic fish auctions are held and you can go and see the ancient customs in action. In the neighborhood, a small dock maintains the practice of wooden boats' construction, with its elaborated makers in action.

If You're a Ghoul And You Know It Take A Walk OutsideTo the Sqala and its enormous bronze cannons for fabulous views across the harbour and towards Mogador Island. We are now on the Ramparts of the Old City and you have a panoramic view of the medina, a complex maze with its narrow streets, white washed houses and blue windows.

The medina of Essaouira is a hive of creativity and culture. You’ll visit many art galleries, handcraft boutiques, and workshops, where gifted carpenters deftly carve perfumed thuja wood into beautiful things. Explore colorful souks with the scent of spices in the air, and silver jewelry, and precious stones glimmering in the light Moroccan light.

It’s also recommended to visit the Mellah—the old Jewish Quarter in the north of town. Near the harbour, the Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah Museum is a collection of traditional crafts, old weapons, beautiful jewellery, musical instruments, carpets, and weighty silk costumes that shed more light into the rich heritage of the city of Essaouira.

For an authentic glimpse of local life, enjoy fresh grilled seafood at one of the many small restaurants by the port or nestled inside the medina. After returning to Marrakech, walk miles on the untamed beach or have a moment by riding camels on the coast and savoring the sea breeze and quiet on the beach.
